Well, it’s been over 6 months and Chris and I STILL can’t stop raving about how amazing our honeymoon in Kauai was. We became the #1 fans of this incredible Hawaiian island after our 9-day trip last August. We’re obsessed. If you’re like Chris (you can’t sit still and always have to be doing something fun and adventurous) or me (just let me sit on the beach till I turn pink), read on to find out why Kauai has everything you need to have an incredible vacation.
Kauai is absolutely beautiful.
Do yourself a favor and Google Kauai. Like now. Your jaw will drop when you see these pictures of paradise. The landscape is so stunning. The mountains, canyons, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and beaches make for some seriously gorgeous views. The Na Pali Coast is simply breathtaking. We took Captain Andy’s sunset dinner cruise on a catamaran sailboat (a wedding gift from our friend, Todd – thanks, Todd!) and couldn’t get enough of the beautiful cliffs… The sunset didn’t disappoint, either!

You’ll find endless secret and not-so-secret beaches.
You may have to hike a bit to get to some of them, but if you’re up for a little adventure, you can find some incredible beaches on Kauai. Before we went on our trip, we bought a copy of The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed, and we were so glad we did! It had tons of information on the best beaches, many of which were secret (or nudist… helpful information to avoid surprises!).

There are amazing activities for everyone.
Like I said, Chris is a guy who can’t sit still. He loves to do stuff. Fun and active stuff. Kauai is the perfect place to do fun and active stuff. We went hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, boating, off-roading, and even went on a biplane ride. Here are some recommendations for the best activities you can do on Kauai. (A lot of these are listed in more detail in The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed.)
- Take a hike
- Go for a drive
- Try snorkeling
- Catch some rays on a beach
- Fly high on a biplane/helicopter ride
- Go for a boat ride
- See a luau
- Take a surfing lesson
- Go paddle boarding or kayaking
- Get your coffee fix on a coffee estate

The weather is wonderful.
One of the coolest things about Kauai is the weather. Kauai does get more rain than the other Hawaiian islands, but that must be why they call it the Garden Island! Most of the island is green and lush, and the rain makes the waterfalls even more lively! Mount Wai’ale’ale, in the center of the island, has been dubbed the wettest spot on earth, so parts of Kauai tend to be rainy, however, when it rains, it usually doesn’t last long. And if the occasional sprinkle is getting to you, head to the western part of the island, where it’s always dry.
Kauai has tasty and fresh food.
There is delicious, fresh food everywhere you turn on Kauai. Fish tacos, sushi, Polynesian food, poi bowls, tropical fruit, you name it. For part of our trip, we stopped at a local grocery store and bought a mango and papaya and had that for breakfast. At one of our hotels, we picked star fruit right off the tree outside (with permission!) and had that!

I hope you enjoyed reading about Kauai and are now as in love with it as I am! As a last tip, I would highly recommend bringing a selfie stick for your trip to Kauai. I know, I know. I used to think they were silly, but after bringing one to Kauai, I’ll never look back! You’re going to be doing so much cool stuff, you need to be able to document it all! And don’t forget to pick up a copy of The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed for tons of helpful tips and ideas!
“Mahalo” for reading!
